The long game

If reaching a goal is important to you, then you need to put in the time and effort to prepare for it. It's that simple.

You need to ask yourself why you want to reach that goal, and how important it is to you.

Then take the first step and go for it, but do expect that, along the way, setbacks will happen – it's optimistic but potentially foolish not to expect challenges. Circumstances will change. Roadblocks will get in the way.

Sometimes, those difficulties will get to a point where you will be brought to ask yourself why you're still doing this in the first place. But only *you* know the answer to that.

If that achievement – whether it's getting your next belt or a Black Belt, achieving a savings target, nabbing a new job, buying a house, or finishing a project – is something you truly, deeply aspire to, then visualise that achievement in your head as though it was already a reality.

This vision is what's going to get you out of bed on a grey morning when you've got a cold, or you're feeling tired but need to keep pushing ahead.

In martial arts, we train to develop a 'long game' mindset through our physical training. It helps us reach for those 'impossible' achievements.
